WHAT IS COGNITIVE THERAPY?
An introduction

Cognitive therapy has been scientifically developed as a technique to free people from their past way of being in the world, by helping them to change their thinking about their present and their future.

Cognitive therapy techniques have been shown to work equally well at producing relief from low mood and anxiety as prescribed drugs in randomised control trials, and work better at preventing recurrence and relapse.

Additionally, there is a type of cognitive therapy called Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), that can help us to live meaningfully in our present and not waste energy and emotions on past upsets or future anxieties, energy that we could be putting into enjoying our life and our experiences.
