| Scientific evidence shows that emotions left to themselves dissipate: emotional energy, all by itself, seeps out and we return, quite naturally to our baseline neutral condition regardless as to whether a positive or negative event has occurred.
Negative emotions that are expressed and dwelt upon, however, can multiply and imprison us in a vicious cycle of dealing fruitlessly with past wrongs.
Insufficient appreciation and savouring of the good events in our past and overemphasis of the bad events are the two culprits that undermine serenity, contentment and satisfaction. MBCT encourages us to experience fully what is happening to us in the present moment. It helps us change the way we think about ourselves and our life.
