| Each session lasts for 50 minutes and you will see your psychotherapist in the same room at the same time each week. Some people have therapy once a week, others twice a week and some opt for several times a week. It is a good idea to think about making a commitment of at least one year as your internal emotional world is rich, complex and has been established over many years of experience, it therefore requires time to explore, unravel and understand your issues and how you might be helped.
Your psychotherapist will discuss with you things like holiday breaks, what to do if you are unwell and cannot attend, fees etc in your first meeting so you know exactly what to expect in terms of commitment.
Your sessions will be confidential. If you have been referred by your GP or by another health care professional, your psychotherapist will write and let them know that you have started therapy, but they will not disclose what is said in your sessions, which will remain private and confidential.
There are some issues that can arise where this might not the case, but only in extremely exceptional circumstances such as where there is a risk of harm to you or to someone else, would a psychotherapist reveal information against your wishes and this would always be with your knowledge.
