| Make sure your psychotherapist belongs to a professional body such as the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (http://www.bacp.co.uk) or the British Psychological Society (http://www.bps.org.uk). You can find a psychoanalyst through the Institute of Psychoanalysis (http://www.psychoanalysis.org.uk). Psychoanalysts usually come from a medical or psychological background and have had a full training in analytic technique.
You can also find psychotherapists who are also psychologists or psychiatrists who have undergone a specific psychoanalytic training with training organisations such as the Tavistock Centre (http://www.tavi-port.org) or the Lincoln Clinic and Centre for Psychotherapy (http://www.lincoln-psychotherapy.org.uk).
