| Apart from choosing a well qualified therapist, the other important considerations are that you find someone you like working with, who is warm, compassionate and understanding, but who is also able to challenge you and help you to think differently about yourself.
Good luck with it, its a very personal thing, but word of mouth is usually a good way to start and check out a few different therapists as there are so many different styles of therapist out there and it is important that you find one that you feel comfortable working with!
Remember also that your GP can refer you to NHS psychology services, where, although there is usually a wait, you will get someone who is properly qualified. Your GP might also be able to refer you to a private therapist, which is another good way of finding someone.
