| You might be confused as to what is meant by a ‘model’ in psychotherapy. There are different types, or models, of psychotherapy, but the two most commonly practiced in the UK are psychodynamic and cognitive behavioural psychotherapy. There is a difference between these two ways of working. Briefly, psychodynamic or psychoanalytic psychotherapy works with unconscious as well as conscious communications and will often draw on your past experiences and how these might be affecting you now, it tends to be open ended, meaning that it often lasts between 1-5 years.
This type of psychotherapy is very useful for people who experience inter-personal relationship problems, who may have issues with their parents or past traumas or losses, or who wish to explore why they feel the way they do and wish to open an inquiry into their internal life.
